Analytical Approach to Dynamic Shear Load-Carrying Capacity for Brittle Materials

Some explicit analytical expressions of the dynamic shear load-carrying capacity for brittle materials under a quadratic waveform loading are presented on basis incubation time fracture criterion, by which can be determined from quasi-static material parameters, and stress wave conditions (loading amplitude, duration, waveform). The numerical results in good agreement with previous experimental data. It is found that criterion adopted to describe time-dependence failure predict failure. Meanwhile, so-called strength should capacity, computable result rather than parameter, strain rate enhancement effect cannot considered as property but structure response conditions.
